CCS invites you to come for an informal meet and greet event to kickoff the season of events. Light refreshments will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring a dish or beverage to share! Board members will be available to help renew memberships, as well as sign-up sheets for this season’s master classes and member recital. Come meet the board, find out a bit about the history of CCS, and share your ideas about its future.

Chicago Cello Society Master Class Series

From the United States to Europe to the Middle East and Asia, Israeli cellist Amit Peled, a musician of profound artistry and charismatic stage presence, is acclaimed as one of the most exciting instrumentalists on the concert stage today. Peled often surprises audiences with the ways he breaks down barriers between performers and the public, making classical music more accessible to wider audiences Mr. Peled has performed as a soloist with many orchestras and in the world’s major concert halls such as: Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, New York; Salle Gaveau, Paris; Wigmore Hall, London; Konzerthaus, Berlin; and Tel Aviv’s Mann Auditorium. As a recording artist, Mr. Peled recently released his fourth Centaur Records CD, Collage,which follows three extremely successful installments, The Jewish Soul, Cellobration, and Reflections.As an active chamber musician, Peled is a founding member of the famed Tempest Trio with pianist Alon Goldstein and violinist Ilya Kaler. Mr. Peled is also a frequent guest artist, performing and giving master classes at prestigious summer music festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival, Newport Music Festival, Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Heifetz International Music Institute, Schleswig Holstein and Euro Arts Festivals in Germany, Gotland Festival in Sweden, Prussia Cove Festival in England, The Violoncello Forum in Spain, and the Mizra International Academy and Festival in Israel. One of the most sought after cello pedagogues, Mr. Peled is a Professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

CCS caps off its 2015-16 season with a final master class with Dmitri Kouzov. A versatile performer, cellist Dmitry Kouzov has performed on five continents with orchestras, in solo and duo recitals, and in chamber music performances. He has appeared with such orchestras as the St. Petersburg Symphony (Russia), as well as National Symphony of Ukraine, and the South Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic (Czech Republic), and the Symphony Orchestra “Classica” (Russia), to name a few. He has awarded First Prize at the International Beethoven Competition in the Czech Republic and he is a two-time laureate of the International Festival-Competition “Virtuosi of the Year 2000” in Russia and is winner of the New York Cello Society Rising Star Award. His credits include numerous performances at many prominent concert venues throughout his native Russia, including both St. Petersburg Philharmonic Halls, the conservatoire halls of Moscow and St. Petersburg, respectively, and the Mariinsky Theater. Mr. Kouzov made his New York orchestral debut at Alice Tully Hall in 2005, under the baton of Maestro Raymond Leppard. Since that time, he has also made recital appearances in New York at 92nd Street Y and Bargemusic. Currently Mr. Kouzov is an Assistant Professor of Cello at the University of Illinois. Prior to this appointment he was on faculty at the Juilliard School and Oberlin Conservatory. Mr. Kouzov holds Bachelors & Masters of Music degrees from the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, and Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School in New York. His principal teachers have included Professors Mark Reizenshtock, Victoria Yagling, Joel Krosnick, and Darrett Adkins.

2nd Annual Suzuki Cello Classic – May 15, 1 pm

CCS is pleased to present its 2nd Annual Suzuki Cello Classic, a fun-filled day of group class and performance in a traditional Suzuki “play down” format. This is a great chance for your students and yourselves to meet other cellists from all over the city and suburbs, and perform together in a friendly, low-pressure, high fun environment. Participants will be placed in different group rooms according to repertoire, and light refreshments will be provided.
There is no minimum-maximum skill/age level required, and all are invited to participate. We ask that participants RSVP here; for non-members or students of non-members, there will be a $10 participation fee asked for at the door (observers may come free).
